With a background in skincare, a professional aromatherapist, and a degree in health sciences (complementary medicine) Catherine decided to develop formulas by studying the scientific and chemical make-up of the essential oils as well as the historical background and apply it to skincare.
With no nonsense approach, essential oils and base products are sourced from only the most high calibre suppliers.
It is a very serious business; we don’t go hand picking the plants at dawn holding hands and singing songs. They go through a rigorous, controlled harvest and distillation or extraction process before they reach us and each one comes with its own certificate of chemical analysis. Just because an essential oil is named “wild” does not guarantee its superiority or purity in fact it could be cross pollinated and have some toxic chemicals in there!
On the same note we would never use lavandin which is very inferior French lavender and which some producers mix in with their regular lavender.

● Synthetic fragrance/colours – the main cause of allergies
● No animal ingredients - except beeswax
● Parabens - known to be toxic & cause skin reactions, used because they are extremely cheap & extend the shelf life of the product
● Glycols/diglycols – used as a humectant, also used in industrial anti-freeze
● PEG’s/PPG’s May cause hives or other skin reaction
● Urea - used as an antiseptic is a product of protein metabolism excreted in human urine
● D.E.A/T.E.A – Used to adjust the pH balance toxic, can cause eye problems & dry skin
● PABA/Synthetic sunscreens – can cause allergic eczema
● Aliphatic alcohols/hydrocarbons – irritating to the skin and gastrointestinal tract
● Phthalates, moderately irritating to the skin and mucous membranes
● fumarates,amines – used as anti irritant to prevent stinging of other cosmetic ingredients
● alkanolamines, synthetic AHA’s/BHA’s - Can cause allergic reaction
● Polyacrylamide used as a thickening agent. Highly toxic & irritating to the skin. Can be absorbed through unbroken skin,
● Metacrylate, elastomer,
● Styrene may be irritating to eyes & mucous membranes,
● Vinyl polyquaternium - inhalation of 300 parts per million is toxic in humans
● Synthetic chelating agents – prevents adverse effects of metals in shampoos,
● Nylon can cause allergic reactions,
● Nitriles , nitrates, nitrosamine releasers can cause irritation
● Nitro as a prefix, when absorbed can cause lack of oxygen in blood
● Bromates can be poisonous
● Aluminium/alumina can cause irritation
